Healing a Nation

As a former child soldier, Morris told a personal story full of tragedy, courage, opportunity and empowerment. He spoke of turning his past experience into a powerful life purpose; the healing of a nation.

Morris was one of the enforced rebel soldiers who managed to escape Liberia’s civil war by crossing through Cote d’Ivoire to the safety of the refugee camp in Ghana. He was provided with support, counselling and training, which eventually helped his return to Liberia. Despite being ostracised for the part he had played in the war, Morris set up a centre to provide counselling and training for others. Through his work, he hoped to minimise the cross-generational impact of the past.

For me, Morris demonstrated the power of leading in service of others. He recognised the unique impact he could have when sharing his life experience, his healing journey and his hope for the next generations.
