Wli Falls
5 FEBRUARY 2023
It was one of those truly adventurous days today - a chosen destination with no clue how to get there. You just have to set off and make decisions as you go. Hence, I travelled on motorbikes and in a shared minibus to get to Wli falls - brilliant rides through open countryside.
I ended up at Waterfall Lodge - a rustic haven owned by a German couple. My room was heavenly for 150,000CFA and opened onto a deck facing a large garden. I could see the falls from the deck.
The Wli falls are quite spectacular - with pools for swimming at each level. Hundreds of bats cling to the adjacent rocks.
I was guided to the lower falls and then partly up the steep pathway to the upper falls by an intoxicated rasta, who ended up falling over frequently and sinking into one of the streams. I left him along the way and continued the walk with a group of Swedish medical interns visiting from a neighbouring hospital.
I spent the evening eating delicious homemade food with the wonderful company of two other guests and our hosts. A special evening in a beautiful location.
