Tashkurgan

I saw a very different side to Kashgar in the early morning today.

I saw a very different side to Kashgar in the early morning today. Meat was being prepared for sale! and bread was being made in the backstreets. In the park there were people doing a range of exercises including a group of musicians accompanying some traditional Uighur dances.

The bus journey to Tashkurgan along the old silk route to Pakistan, was amazing. After an hour we had to wait for a landslide to be removed from the road before continuing on our journey. We passed turquoise lakes, barren desert and high snow capped mountains. Along the way, we passed isolated homesteads and shepherds moving goats across the valley looking for areas of grass land. The air is really fresh here and it is  stunning.
